MIKE BUNCE | Executive Director

Mike Bunce Grew up in Lansing, Michigan. He earned a degree in Landscape Architecture from Michigan State in 1980 and moved south. He met his wife of over 30 years in Houston and moved to the Carolinas where they raised two great children. Mike got an MBA degree from Wake Forest in 1989 and started his own company in 1990. Mike and Susan bought and began renovating a large, dilapidated Craftsman bungalow in the same year.  He became a Christian in 1994 and taught a cover-to-cover Bible study several times before moving to Montgomery to  in 2004 to oversee the construction of a new town called The Waters.

In 2009, Mike's world was turned upside down. Because of the economic recession, he was laid off and struggled to pay for a new house and two children in college. He had recently become a volunteer with a new ministry called Common Ground Montgomery. Rather than search for a conventional job, Mike answered the call to raise his own support and launch a housing ministry with Common Ground in Washington Park.  The name of this new ministry was taken from Acts 5:42, "Day after day in the temple courts, and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ."  Susan started as a volunteer and later became the Executive Director of First Choice Women's Medical Center, a crisis pregnancy ministry.  Mike and Susan moved into Washington Park in 2011. They are currently fostering an 11-year old son.

Mike has seen God's vision for House to House unfold in the midst of his and his neighbor's brokenness.  He has seen many relationships formed out of the need for better housing grow into a community of Christians who love and serve God and their neighbors.

Long term, Mike is hoping to see H2H residents disciple their neighbors and become home owners. He also plans to eventually become semi-retired, turning the ministry over to one of his awesome staff members and opening a bicycle shop in the neighborhood. (Yes, Mike does love bicycles.)
